After the tooth has been filled, the dentist will set the material using a blue light that hardens the filling materials.

Types of Dental Fillings

Amalgam Fillings – Silver-colored fillings that are highly durable, long-lasting, and cost effective
Gold Fillings – Gold colored fillings that are made of a gold alloy with gold copper and other metals. Gold fillings are high durable and long lasting but are a more expensive option than amalgam fillings.
Composite Fillings – Tooth-colored fillings that use a material that looks and acts like your actual teeth. Typically preferred by patients because they are indistinguishable from your natural teeth and are a more cost-effective option.
Porcelain fillings – Mimic the color and texture of natural teeth. More expensive option that requires more than one dental visit. Can be used when a cavity is found on the flat part of a tooth.
